Handbag Card

Handbag Card

Grand Calibur Handbag:- Made By Kate

You will need to make sure that the base layer and the shaping strip are made out of 260 gsm card stock or above to help maintain the shape of the bag. The other two layers can be lighter card stock or even paper.

How to Make it

How to Make it

Handbag:- Made By Kate

You will need a Grand Calibur and Grand Labels One, Grand Scallop Circles and Grand Circles.

You will need to use the first three Grand Nestability Labels One dies (1 being the largest).
Take the largest Nestabilities Labels 0ne die and cut out the base, using heavy weight dark card stock, twice.
Take the 2nd Nestability die and cut two out of a paler/contrasting card/paper stock.
Take the 3rd Nestability die and again cut two out of contrasting paper stock-Decorate, using blending foam and Brilliance Cosmic Copper. Stamp with Inkadinkado 'Large Flourish'. Allow to dry.

Glue all three 'nested' shapes together. Once dry, trim 1 inch from the 'top' of each of these panels. This measurement is taken from the edge of the base die.

Lid:-
Take the largest Scallop Circle and Cut one, using heavy weight dark card stock.
Take the second Grand Circle die (1 being the largest), cut one, out of paler/contrasting card/paper stock
Take the third Grand Circle die, cut one, out of contrasting paper-Decorate, using blending foam and Brilliance Cosmic Copper. Stamp with Inkadinkado 'Large Flourish'.

Use a Cropadile or hole punch to punch two holes in the top of the lid for the ribbon/cord to make a handle.

Before gluing the pieces together measure and score the card stock, lightly, to make folding easier at the end. The centre panel is scored at 2 inches from each edge, making the centre panel 2 1/4 inches wide. Once glued go over the score lines and fold up against a ruler to get a good clean fold.

Using the same dark A3 card stock, measure the strip for the sides of the handbag. This strip sits between the two panels to create the handbag shape. The strip will need to be 15 1/2 inches long. Score at 4 3/4, and at 10 3/4 The length of this strip needs to be cut 2 3/4 wide and scored at 1/4 and at 2 1/2 inches . Turn back the 1/4 inch border on each side and cut 'V' 's where each of the folds occur in the length. This strip should now be folded into a 'C' shape. Glue this strip onto the inside base, of one of the handbag panels, leaving a small border. It is best to use a wet glue when doing this kind of construction work. Once dry, glue the second panel in place, try to keep the panels lined up. Leave to dry.

Once the side panels are dry glue the lid into place, again using a wet glue.

Once dry apply 16mm Velcro glue dots to the handbag and the lid or use Papermania magnetic closures.

Project Number 2 Paper Pleating

Paper Pleating
Made By Kate
Here are some instructions and tips on paper pleating.

If you have a score board, Martha Stewart, Scorepal etc, this will make your job SO much easier. Having decided that I wanted 1/2 inch pleats, here are the basic principals. I needed two 12x12 length, which were 1 1/4 inch wide for this project. Score at 1 inch and at 1/2, along the length of your paper. Once you have scored both strips you will need to start folding. The 1/2 inch is folded under the 1 inch, this sounds odd but as you work your way along the length of the paper the pleats will form and be 1/2 inch wide. Make sure that you follow the pattern that you have formed, when attaching the next strip. Follow this principle to make any length or width of pleat. It is up to you to decide if you want to secure the pleat with glue or stitches. I must confess to using both, as I found that the pleated strip was a bit unruly.

To add Stitching.
Take a mouse mat, a ruler, a poky tool, a darning needle and some embroidery threads. Having pleated your strip of paper, check the required size against your project and trim. Do not glue the strip onto the card. Place the ruler just below half way down the pleated strip. At set intervals pierce the paper with the poky tool. You can decide the length of the stitches, just remember, what ever pattern you choose to do, keep it all the same. Once you have pierced your pleated strip, thread your needle and sew, in & out along the strip, when you reach the end return and 'fill in' the gaps between the stitches that you made in the first pass. This will give the impression that you have done back stitching but your work will lay flatter. Glue the finished strip onto your card, using a wet glue, strong double sided tape or Pinflair silicone glue gel.

A49 Now make the card.

Card a49:- Made By Kate Take a 5 1/2 inch square card and edge with Inkadinkado 'creamsicle' dye ink from the earth tones set and go over with Marvy le plume 'Mustard', to give a darker appearance. Cut the third Nestabilities Labels 11 die (one being the largest) from decoupage paper. Edge with the Inkadinkado ink. Using the Spellbinders Nestability compatible Clear Stamp set 'Congratulations', Stamp and heat emboss, using clear embossing powder. Use the Marvy le plume 'Mustard' to stamp the central message. Cut second Labels 11 die from K&Company, double sided, 12x12 'Brenda Walton Speciality Papers' (Large Rose/Green design). Cut two of 12 x 1 1/4 inch strips from this paper, use the large rose design side. Score the strips at 1 inch and 1/2 inches, folding to form pleats, glue the two completed strips together. Trim to fit the card. Add stitching. Cut a strip, to form a mat underneath the pleated strip, from the Brenda Walton papers, this time use the green side. Glue the pleated strip onto the mat and set aside to dry. Attach two co-ordinating strips of ribbon on the left hand side of the card. Attach the mat with the pleated strip. Glue the Labels mats into place. Take two co-ordinating Prima flowers and attach a 'button' brad. I have not pierced the card with the brad I glued the flower into place, using Pinflair silicone glue gel.

Project Number 3 Boxes.

Project Number 3 Boxes.

Made By Kate
This was My favorite Project because the Box Did include a very large Quality Street Chocolate, but very sorry it did not make it to the photo shoot!!!

The base of this box is constructed by paper folding. The lid is glued at the corners and used to secure the 'cube' and maintain its shape. The finished box is a 2 1/2 inch cubed. Use double sided patterned paper and wet glue for this project.

The Base

I used 2 sheets of Brenda Walton 'Madeline' 8x8 Speciality paper to make this box. Trim one of the 8x8 sheets to make a 7 1/2 inch square. With a score board and scoring tool, score at 2 1/2 & 5 inches. Turn the paper one quarter and score again at 2 1/2 & 5 inches. This should make a 9 square grid. Fold each of the four scored lines in turn and run a bone folder over the creases to make the fold lines crisp. This will help with the overall look of the edges of the box when construction is complete. At each of the corners score a diagonal line, from the intersection of the horizontal and vertical score lines, to the outer edge of the paper. Each of the corner squares now has a diagonal line running through it, from the edge of the 'centre' square. By pulling the point of the corner in as you bring the two sides up, you should be able to make a 'triangular shape' inside the box and your first corner and two sides should be formed. Lay your box on one of these sides and using a bone folder go over the 'Triangle' to improve the 'crease' and to help make sure it lies flatter. This sounds a bit odd but once you have made your first corner the rest falls into place. As you work around each of the corners, try to make sure that they lay in the same direction, following in a 'circular' motion. This way the box will 'close' better when the box lid is in place.

The Lid

Using Nestabilities Lacey Square and the second sheet of paper cut the largest die. Using a score board score and score tool, score at 3/4, turn the square one quarter and repeat until all the sides are scored. Fold each of the four scored lines in turn and run a bone folder over the creases to make the fold lines crisp. Like with the base, score a diagonal line through the corner section, where the horizontal and vertical lines meet. Trim the corner by cutting a line straight across, from the top of the horizontal score line to the top of the vertical score line, cutting off the corner loop. Be careful not to cut into the other loops while completing this task. Fold the diagonal line in and crease the sides with your fingers. Apply quick drying wet glue, to the inside of the diagonally folded triangle and pinch to ensure a good fold. Repeat for all four corners. Leave to completely dry. Fold the inner corners of the box in, making sure the 'triangles' lay in the same direction, pop the lid on top.

Decoration

This can be as simple or as elaborate as you wish.

Put the lid on the box and mark each of the panels that are to be decorates, then open up the paper box base. The outside of the finished Box has been decorated using Nestabilities Scallop Squares Small and the reverse of the Brenda Walton papers. Add co-ordinating Prima flowers and brads. The inside of the box may also be decorated.

Three Tiered Boxes Made By Kate

You will require Lacey Squares, Labels 13 and Scallop Hearts to complete this project. The card stock, decoration and papers used are your choice.

Follow the instructions for the 'box', already posted on the website, in the gallery section. The only thing that changes, as the size of the boxes decrease, are the measurement for the card stock and for the scoring. Follow the folding and gluing instructions. Here are the measurement that you will need for each box:-

Largest box.

This is made with a 7 1/2 inch square sheet of pearlescent white card, (exactly as it is in the 'box project'). Score at 2 1/2 and 5 inches, turn the card one quarter and score again.
The Lid is made from the first, largest Lacey Square die, scores all sides at 3/4.

Middle box

This is made with a 5 5/8 square sheet of pearlescent white card. Score at 1 7/8 and 3 3/4 inches, turn the card one quarter and score again. I did try 6x6 card but the lid was far too snug, plus the proportions were a bit wrong-sorry.
The lid is made from the second Lacey Square and scored all sides at 5/8 inch.

Smallest box

This is made with a 3 3/4 inch square card. Score at 1 1/4 and 2 1/2, turn the card one quarter and score again.
The Lid is made using the third Lacey Square, one being the largest, scored at 1/2.

To Decorate

Using Labels 13 and white pearlescent card, cut four of each dies four, five and six, (one being the largest). Using the Spellbinder Nestability Clear Stamp Set 'Congratulations', for Labels 11 &13, stamp two pairs of each design, for the three tiers. Cut four Scallop Hearts, score and fold in half, right sides together. Take some craft wire and secure on the back, in the middle of one of the hearts. Glue all the hearts together, trapping the wire inside. Once dry, pierce a hole in the centre of the smallest lid, thread the wire through hole and secure with tape.

Take a 5x 5 inch square card. Using the third Nestabilities Classic Heart (1 being the largest) cut one, out of decoupage paper. Cut the fourth Nestabilities Scalloped Heart and the second Nestabilities Labels Three die. Using the 'What a Swirl' Spellbinders Nestability Compatible Clear Stamp Set and Versacolour 'Cardinal', stamp the Classic Heart, The Scallop Heart and Labels Three. Using blending foam and the 'Cardinal' ink, ink the edge of the card. Instead of blending towards the centre of the card, flick outwards, to give a feathered pattern. Mat the layers onto the centre of the card, using Pinflair Glue gel or 3D foam pads.

Take a 4 1/2 inch x 10 inch plain piece of card and fold it in half to make a 4 1/2 x 5 inch card. Using the largest Nestability Beaded Oval die, cut one, using decoupage paper. Using the Third Nestability Classic Heart, cut two. Cut one of each of the fourth Classic and Scalloped Heart. Using the 'What a Swirl' Spellbinders Nestability Compatible Clear Stamp Set and Versacolour 'Cardinal', stamp the fourth Classic and Scallop Heart. Stamp the 'open heart' image on one of the pair of 'third' Classic Hearts, edge with the ink and glue together. This Heart is to act as a guide, for positioning, once the scalloped heart has been glued into place. Using the Spellbinders Nestability Compatible Beaded Oval Clear Stamp Set and the 'Cardinal' ink, stamp the Hearts into each of the corners of the card. Blend the edges of the card with blending foam and the ink. Mat all the layers onto the centre of the card, using Pinflair Glue gel or 3D foam pads.

Take a 4 1/2 x 11 inch piece of card and score in half to make a 4 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch card. Edge with Brilliance Pearlescent 'Orchid' Ink. Using contrasting Pink card stock and Labels Ten, cut die three and four (one being the largest). Use the Cuttlebug Embossing Plus Folder 'Postage Alphabet' with a third shade of pink card stock. You will need to do this twice to ensure you have the right number of letters for this project. Using the Spellbinders Nestability compatible Clear Stamp set 'New Little One' and Brilliance Pearlescent 'Orchid' Ink,stamp the smaller Labels Ten that was cut out. Bend the 'New Little One' stamp to form an arch and stamp the corners of the card. Mat the layers together and position in the centre of the card, adding two pink gingham ribbon bow to each side.

Roses

Roses

This is what Kate Has to say.
I have also been playing with the beautiful book, Spellbinders Nestabilities 'Basics & Beyond'. This is a lovely book with both clear pictures and instructions. On page 9 are the details on how to make these roses, out of Nestabilities 'deckled rectangles LG' dies. On page 58 & 59 you will see the picture of the finished rose, which is stunning. The roses I have made were constructed in two ways. I only used the card stock that I had. I did not buy any of the special 'florist' supplies mentioned in the book.

This project requires wet glue.

The dark rose, made with red card stock, was formed as the rose was constructed. Start by rolling the first rectangle, tightly around. Then each layer was shaped around the previous one, curling each petal with a poky tool, trying not to catch too many of the 'petall' corners in the folds. Once completed it was sprayed with Smooch 'Cherry Ice' Spritz inks.

For the paler rose I Spritzed with the Smooch 'Gold Glow' and edged with Versamark 'Cardinal' red ink before any construction took place. Allow to dry. Start by rolling the first rectangle, tightly around. Each petal was then shaped before it was glued to the previous one. The left and then the right side of each of the petals were curled back and then a paint brush was laid down the centre of the 'petal', each side being gently folded, towards the centre, bringing the edges around and forming a 'collar' between the two points of the petals. The only way to describe it was to say it looks like you've tried to put a dinner jacket on a wine bottle. When gluing, into place, I tried to 'catch' the petals with the next layer. This technique gives a much tighter looking Rose.

have made this card using the Grand Calibur Nestabilities Grand Labels One dies. The finished card fits into a 6x6 inch envelope. Cut folded card stock, using the fourth Grand labels One die (1 being the largest), overlapping the spine, so that the card will open and not be in two halves! Re-cut the front of the card, in plain white card, so that the shape of the card looks complete. Cut the base layer, from DCWV 'Nanas Kitchen', divide in half and glue into place. Edge the card with a Cyan Promarker. Cut the green 'ribbon' section, from 'Nana's Kitchen'. Use Labels One and cut the message mat, edge with the Promarker.
