Project Number 4

The Fine Art of Paper Folding.
By Kate.

Rosettes

These cards have been made using 'Rosettes' as accents. The idea is that the 2 strips of paper, once concertinaed are glued to form a circle. This circle needs to be laid flat and glued. To lay the paper circle flat, grab the top of the pleats and pull out as you push the bottom of the pleats in.

Here are some photos which I hope help illustrate this (see a66)

This can be tricky at first but practice does help. The centre of the 'Rosette' needs to be glued to help it hold its shape, before it's attached to your project. I have tried several construction techniques:-gluing after the concertina pleats have been made into a full circle and gluing as you go along (less Successful), with these two methods you have to hold the 'Rosette' in shape until the glue goes off or hold it down with objects, as the paper is very springy and will expand or 'pop up'. The solution, which works well with the 1 inch wide strips, is to deploy a jam jar lid. Having glued the concertinaed strips to make a complete circle, pop the folded 'Rosette' into the lid, use scrap card to make a collar, that will hold it closed, glue small sections and leave to dry. The advantage of this method is that you can have several 'Rosettes' under construction at once, which you can move around and these lids can be stacked and will not get in the way of your working area. The 'Rosette' can stay in the 'collar' until the glue is dry, the co-ordinating button can then be added, using Pinflair/silicone glue and left for 20-30 minutes. With this method the 'Rosette' is less springy and can be glued to the card without the need for any additional weights.

You will find the technique that suits you best. Which ever way you choose to glue your project make sure that you pinch the pleats as you fold them, to give a crisp edge.

Sunflower
Card a60:- Take a 4 1/2 inch square card and edge with Sunflower Promarker. You will need two strips of 1 1/4 x 12 inch double sided 'Wild Raspberry' K & Company paper. Using a scoreboard, score at 3/8 inch along the length of the paper. Once you have scored both strips glue them together. Fold all the scores lines to form a concertina, pinch the pleats to ensure crisp folds.
Once you have constructed the 'Rosette' and it has dried, glue it into place, put a weight on top until the glue has had time to dry. Add a co-ordinating button. Finish with a peel off message and accents.

Raspberry
Card a61:-Take a 6 inch square card and edge with Sunflower Promarker. Make a 5 inch square mat and edge with Cardinal Red Promarker and glue onto the centre of the card. You will need two strips of 1 1/2 x 12 double sided 'Wild Raspberry' K & Company paper. Using a scoreboard, score at 3/8 inch along the length of the paper. Once you have scored both strips glue them together. Fold all the scores lines to form a concertina, pinch the pleats to ensure crisp folds.
Once you have constructed the 'Rosette' and it has dried, glue it into place and place a light weight on top, until the glue has had time to dry. Once dry add a co-ordinating button. Colour some Peel off flowers and corners with the Cardinal Promarker and add to the card.

a63

Three Rosettes
Card a63:-Take a DL card and edge with Cardinal Red Promarker. Make 3 Rosette, each constructed using 2 strips of 1 x 12 inches of 'Wild Raspberry double sided paper. Score at 1/2 and inch along each length. Glue the strips together, fold all the scores lines to form a concertina, pinching the pleats to ensure crisp folds. Make a mat using a co-ordinating strip of the 'Wild Raspberry' paper.
Once you have constructed the 'Rosette' and it has dried, glue it into place, putting a light weight on the top until the glue has had a chance to dry. Once dry add a co-ordinating button.

Card a54 Made By Kate :- Take a 5x6 inch card and edge with Brilliance 'Sunflower Yellow'. Cut a mat out of bright blue card stock and round off the corners. Using Nestabilities 'Labels Eight' die two, (one being the largest), cut a mat out of bright green card stock. With white card stock and 'Labels Eight' dies four and five, cut one of each. Edge the fourth die with Promarker 'Cyan', the fifth with 'Lush Green'. Stamp with Spellbinders Nestability compatible Clear Stamp set 'Design Label Accents' and Brilliance 'Sunflower Yellow'. The message is stamped in Memento 'Bahama Blue'. Using the Martha Stewart 'Chicks' punch, punch four times from yellow card stock. Reverse two of the 'Chicks', so that they can face' each other when glued into place. Take a Promarker 'Lush Green' and colour the grass underneath the chicks. Using the smallest Nestabilites 'Nested Eggs' die, and three co-ordinating bright coloured card stock, cut four of each. Glue all the 'Labels Eight' Mats onto the centre of the card. Place the 'Chicks' Diagonally across each corners, just 'catching' the edge of the Green mat. Glue the 'Eggs' around the main message mat.

Card a51:- Take a 51/2 x 6 inch card. Edge with Adirondack 'Denim' dye ink. Cut a mat out of blue card and using the 'Denim' and the Spellbinders Nestability compatible Clear Stamp set 'Design Label Accents', stamp the images around this mat. Using a water brush/paint brush and water, blend around the stamped images, to give a soft and coloured effect. Leave to dry. Once dry, glue onto the prepared card. Use 'Glossy Accents' to highlight the top of the Nappy Pin and the centre of the flower on the Booties. Using Nestabilities 'Labels Ten', cut a white mat with the third die, (one being the largest) and edge with the 'Denim' and water brush effect. Cut a Blue mat with the fourth die and stamp. Using the Cuttlebug Embossing plus 'Postal Alphabet', cut twice to get the required number of letters. Highlight the letters with 'Glossy Accents'. Glue the 'Labels Ten' mats onto the centre of the card. Add the Letters using Pinflair Glue Gel or 3D foam pads. to give dimension. A co-ordinating bow will add the finishing touch.

The Martha Stewart Chicks

Card a52 :- Take a cream A6 card and edge with Brilliance 'Sunflower Yellow'. Using the Martha Stewart 'Chicks' punch, punch four times from yellow card stock. Take a Promarker 'Lush Green' and colour the grass underneath the chicks. Using Nestabilities 'Labels Two' die four, (one being the largest), cut a mat using the Brenda Walton 12x12 speciality papers. Using the yellow card stock, that the chicks were punched out of, and 'Labels Two', die five, cut a message mat. Edge with Brilliance 'Pearlescent Thyme' and stamp 'happy Easter' from the Spellbinders Nestability compatible Clear Stamp set 'Design Label Accents'. Cut two 1 inch strips, from the Brenda Walton papers and glue into place on the A6 card. Position the two punched and coloured 'Chicks' onto the strips, making sure that they line up. Add message mats. Use co-ordinating Prima flowers and brad accents to finish the card. As my designs tend to develop as I go along, I put the brads into the flowers and then glue them into place, using Pinflair Glue Gel . This allows me to reposition and arrange the flowers without ruining the project.

A53

A53

Card a53:- Take a white A6 card and edge with a 'Black' Promarker. Using the Martha Stewart 'Chicks' punch and starting at the 'spine' of the card, punch twice. Reverse the card to repeat this process, which should make the punching symmetrical. Cut a mat from black card stock, slightly smaller than A6 and glue to the inside of the front of the card, behind the chicks. Using Nestabilities 'Labels Eight' die four, (one being the largest), cut a mat from white card. Cut a mat using 'Labels Eight', die three and black card. Make a bow from co-ordinating ribbon. Make a slit in the 'spine' of the card, at the position that you want the ribbon to pass through. Lay a line of double sided tape on the card, where you wish to position the ribbon. Attach the ribbon and push one end through the slit in the 'spine' of the card. Use double sided tape to secure both ends of the ribbon, inside the card. Glue the bow and the message mats into place. Add Peel offs.

Wedding Favours

Made By Kate .
Three Tiered Boxes

You will require Lacey Squares, Labels 13 and Scallop Hearts to complete this project. The card stock, decoration and papers used are your choice.

Follow the instructions for the 'box', already posted on the website, in the gallery section. The only thing that changes, as the size of the boxes decrease, are the measurement for the card stock and for the scoring. Follow the folding and gluing instructions. Here are the measurement that you will need for each box:-

Largest box.

This is made with a 7 1/2 inch square sheet of pearlescent white card, (exactly as it is in the 'box project'). Score at 2 1/2 and 5 inches, turn the card one quarter and score again.
The Lid is made from the first, largest Lacey Square die, scores all sides at 3/4.

Middle box

This is made with a 5 5/8 square sheet of pearlescent white card. Score at 1 7/8 and 3 3/4 inches, turn the card one quarter and score again. I did try 6x6 card but the lid was far too snug, plus the proportions were a bit wrong-sorry.
The lid is made from the second Lacey Square and scored all sides at 5/8 inch.

Smallest box

This is made with a 3 3/4 inch square card. Score at 1 1/4 and 2 1/2, turn the card one quarter and score again.
The Lid is made using the third Lacey Square, one being the largest, scored at 1/2.

To Decorate

Using Labels 13 and white pearlescent card, cut four of each dies four, five and six, (one being the largest). Using the Spellbinder Nestability Clear Stamp Set 'Congratulations', for Labels 11 &13, stamp two pairs of each design, for the three tiers. Cut four Scallop Hearts, score and fold in half, right sides together. Take some craft wire and secure on the back, in the middle of one of the hearts. Glue all the hearts together, trapping the wire inside. Once dry, pierce a hole in the centre of the smallest lid, thread the wire through hole and secure with tape.
